3 Watches on the Wrists of Motor Racing Legends

Horology and motorsport are entirely unified. After all, you cannot measure the speed without time. These two obsessions appeal to many individuals of the same sensibility and have existed long in parallel. When it comes to motor racing, everything from measuring lap gaps and times to making a winning pit strategy needs perfect precision timing. While this makes sense for a strong association between them, many luxury watch manufacturers have designed watches to knit with many motor racing legends. Indeed, various models will be inevitably associated with some of the most outstanding sportspersons.

Although most luxury watches tend to retain their value with time, the ones that have some association with legendary names are likely to hold a higher value. Before you head out to ‘sell my watch’ or sell watches of any famous brand to trustworthy pawnbrokers Hatton Garden or ‘Hatton Garden pawnbrokers’, have a look at the three great watches that will be linked forever with some of the legendary names in motor racing.

1. The Rolex Daytona and Jackie Stewart

Ever since Rolex enlisted many world record holders including Sir Malcolm Campbell, it has been synonymous with the persistent pursuit of speed. Sir Malcolm Campbell raced on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, sands of Wale’s Carmarthen Bay and also, five times on Florida’s beach, accompanied with the today’s most sought-after watch- Rolex Daytona on the wrist. The beach had turned into the Super Speedway by 1962.

However, a noteworthy fan of the Cosmograph Rolex Daytona also includes one of the most successful drivers Sir Jackie Stewart or ‘The Flying Scot’. Sir Jackie Stewart signed as the Rolex ambassador in 1968. He racked up about forty-three podium finishes in the course of a nine-season career. Out of total 27 wins, three of them were at the Monaco Grand Prix, and Stewart was presented with a Rolex Daytona for each.

Rolex also presented Sir Jackie Stewart with the brand new steel model in 2016 to commemorate his first Monte Carlo success’ 50th anniversary.

However, Rolex Daytona itself remains one of the most popular and expensive watches in the world ever sold. A Rolex Daytona watch is likely to fetch you a higher price when selling it to any trustworthy Hatton Garden Pawnbrokers or pawnbrokers Hatton Garden

2. The Omega Speedmaster and Michael Schumacher

Statistically, Michael Schumacher is known to be the most successful Formula 1 driver of all time. In his 15-year career, Schumacher broke the record for F1 World Championships with seven. While he detains maximum triumphs overall with 91, he became the only competitor historically to compete in the top three in each race of the single season.

Schumacher became the Omega ambassador, and they both collaborated in many racing events. Omega released a pair of Speedmaster Reduced models in steel to celebrate Schumacher’s first year Ferrari driving in 1996 – one with a red strap and dial and another one in bright yellow. However, some limited-edition Omega Speedmaster models were launched in the next several years for Michael Schumacher.

Finally, in 2005, the brand introduced the Speedmaster Legend Limited Edition model. The watch sported a carbon fibre dial and an engraved bezel that flaunted his list of achievements like 68 pole positions, 250 Formula 1 races, 154 podiums and 91 victories.

3. The Tag Heuer and Ayrton Senna

Ayrton Senna was one of the famous drivers of Formula 1 of all time and his association with Tag Heuer was indeed a rewarding one. Senna was TAG’s brand ambassador, signed on in 1991 and the TAG Senna 6000 was his first watch after collaboration with Tag Heuer, launched on Friday, 29th April 1994. Unfortunately, it was only two days before his ill-timed death in San Marino Grand Prix only at the age of 34.

Although there have been many watches carrying his name, he is known to be most connected with the ‘Sports Elegance’ ref. S25706C. This watch range was introduced after TAG Group acquired Heuer in 1985. However, the preferred model of Ayrton Senna from the Sports Elegance family was a quartz-powered analogue/digital chronograph. The watch featured two LED displays and three sub-dials at the 2, 6 and 10 o’clock, featuring a rotating bezel in gold and a steel case.
